Bruce "Benny" BERGLUND
1955 - 2021
Known as a friend to all he encountered, our dear Bruce "Benny" Berglund left us far too soon on March 8, 2021. Benny was born December 23, 1955, to parents Benjamin and LaVern Berglund in St. Paul, MN. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved all that the Midwest had to offer. He could often be found sharing in these favorite pastimes with his loyal labs and dearest friends, especially childhood and lifelong best friend Scott Van. Benny always treasured and looked forward to his adventures with the Van family. A true athlete who prized his position as a football quarterback in high school, he never missed a Vikings game. Benny's love of sports extended to baseball and basketball, both of which he also participated in during high school. His love of baseball continued, playing in college at St. Olaf. Benny was proud to be an Ole and lovingly teased all of his friends who weren't. Benny was a true character! He loved golf, old westerns, shrimp scampi, and a good steak. He had every gadget known to man, much to the dismay of his best friend and partner in crime Ellen Grimsby. Benny grew to become an exceptionally talented cook and expert baker and enjoyed all aspects of culinary arts. A beloved colleague, mentor, and friend to so many in the food industry in which he worked, Benny was known by name by all for his high level of customer care and affability. A strong Christian faith kept Benny going, and he found comfort knowing that this life would not be the end. Benny was a member at Augustana Lutheran Church in West St. Paul and a devoted drive-in church attendee. He was not shy in sharing that he liked the expediency of drive-in church (who needs to sing multiple verses, anyway?) in addition to the ability to visit with many friends there. Benny truly lived his faith; while he didn't explicitly share it with others, everyone could see it through his actions. Benny will be remembered most for his warmth, humility, wit, sharp mind, humor, joy for life, and for being a friend you could always count on. He brought immense happiness and laughter to those around him, and his laugh and the sparkle in his eyes will never be forgotten. Moreover, Benny loved and respected everyone. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Benny is preceded in death by his parents and beloved dogs. He is survived by countless cherished friends near and far in addition to his sister Kathy Ward and her family. In Benny's memory, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/twincities/name/bruce-berglund-obituary?pid=198111471
